I come from a long line of women that conveniently throw all the miscellaneous things in a laundry room and suddenly it looks like this mess! The only option at this point was to start that laundry room makeover I’d been planning for almost a year. I originally wanted to replace the tile and make it a fun and funky laundry room. It can be done but honestly it wasn’t necessary in the end. My best tip for updating a small room floor… a rug! And we already had this one making the budget on this laundry room makeover under $200.
The first step was emptying the room. I needed to donate some old clothes that the kids have outgrown and throw away anything we don’t use. Once we had the room cleared, John and a friend took the dryer off the washer. They both needed a good cleaning, inside and out. I found the shelves on clearance and the baskets at Menards. The shelves came with a cheap chrome bracket. We picked out a nice white bracket to use instead; also at Menards.

The during and after: Isn’t he a hard-working husband!?
To help keep organized, we hung the vacuum. I actually decided to add another shelf and three more canvas bins above the two shown here and store the three kids spare sheets in one each, making the bed changes an easier process. This year I’m all about simplifying my life where I can so we can focus on the important things.
If you’re getting ready to sell you Kansas home and your laundry room looks more like my before image, this would be an easy and cheap update that will make your home stand out among the rest.
I’m looking for something for the wall above the counter space. Have any suggestions? Get in touch.
We also have room along that back wall to cut out a shelf for the laundry baskets…but that’s going to take longer than a couple hours. I’ll update if it happens!
Cheers,
Heather
