Abby and Grant’s wedding day is one of my favorites. Her shoes, dress and ring were the perfect blend of classic, elegant and timeless. Simple Elegance planned an amazing wedding reception at the Nelson Atkins Art Museum. And, they said their wedding vows at one of my favorite Catholic Churches in Kansas City, Our Lady of Sorrows.
Abby and Grant’s blog will show how a wedding day timeline works when you don’t see each other beforehand. Their ceremony was at 6 p.m. but it’s Summer so we had a little time to get some sunset portraits. But mostly, all portraits were done before their wedding ceremony. We started with the boys at a nearby ivy wall and took their portraits alone. After they left for the ceremony, the girls arrived for their wedding party portraits. When the party photos were done, we headed to Our Lady also and began some family photos out front on each side. After the full mass, we did some formal family portraits at the alter and then stepped outside to the courtyard to take some more candid photos with the gorgeous light that was setting.
We all arrived at the Nelson as the sun was set and twilight light began to capture a few more wedding party and couple portraits at the Nelson. This museum is one of my favorites and I really wanted to capture the architecture so we stepped outside after dinner for some night photography and took portraits both in front of the backlit buildings and at the iconic steps and columns as they headed back into the dance floor.
We stayed the entire night to capture the glow stick and vintage car send off. One of my favorite parts of the day was working with Holly Davidson at Simple Elegance. She showed what a wedding planner is at it’s best and even ordered food delivered for all of the hard-working pros at dinner time!
