Update: I have stopped photographing weddings as of December 2021 and became a real estate agent in Kansas and Missouri. If you’re also searching for a new home together, let’s call it serendipity! I can also give you some great recommendations for a wedding photographer. Feel free to schedule a call or reach out at 913-948-3918. Thanks and happy wedding planning!
The city was empty. It had just been shut down and a quarantine was getting ready to go into effect. My phone rang and it was yet another Spring wedding cancelling. I was overwhelmed at this point. Tears started to well up but I knew I had a couple arriving for their engagement session within minutes. Abby and Ben had kept their flight from Pennsylvania, where they are currently living for Abby’s residency, just for this. I am still so impressed they traveled so far for me. I think I tried to explain my watery eyes as they arrived but it didn’t take very long into their session to forget my most recent phone call and just enjoy being behind the camera again. They so obviously adored each other. I didn’t realize it would be my last session for months but it was a great one. I looked forward to their Fall wedding and loved hearing all the details they were finishing up.
Clients like Abby and Ben are one of the main reasons I still love my job. They’re still head over heels in love with each other and just being near one another is happiness. Of course they had changes in their plans but nothing was going keep this from being the PERFECT day. Abby is incredibly smart and graceful and yet also playful and genuine. It’s no wonder Ben was so smitten after their first date…he had no idea how to proceed… so he played hard to get and it worked!
Abby found this to-die-for-gown by designer, Ann Barge, at Anne Gregory Couture in Pennsylvania.
Abby and her girls got ready at the Intercontinental in Kansas City. This is one of my favorite getting ready locations because the rooms have beautiful light, plenty of space and centrally located by the Plaza. As I was heading down to the lobby to set up Abby’s first look with her Dad, I was geeking out over the images on the back of my camera and barely looking up. A very tall man asked if there was a wedding going on. I think I was carrying Abby’s flowers. I looked up and realized, it was players from the San Diego Padre’s! They were on a game delay at the Royals. The entire team was in the lobby and I shared an elevator ride with a few.
After Abby and her Dad shared a first look we went to the Nelson for Ben and Abby’s first look and wedding party photos. I like trying to find new spots here and there are so many different angles and areas to explore. It’s always my goal to get as many wedding party photos done as efficiently as possible while still having a really good time with a great group of people. Abby and Ben have a wonderful group of family and friends and I just loved getting to meet them.
We traveled to Indian Hills Country Club for their intimate, outdoor ceremony and reception on the patio. Nichole, with Simple Elegance and the staff at IHCC were amazing and did a wonderful job with the details. I love string lights and the Indian Hills Country Club patio has the perfect set up. Abby took a chance with the weather forecast but it was absolutely worth it! I’m so happy she was brave and went for what she wanted!!
I truly hope these two end up back around Kansas City so I can see the two of them become a family one day. Documenting their first day as husband and wife was better than I could have imagined.
