Installing a new front door can be a do-it-yourself project if you have the right tools and knowledge. If you’re looking to update your home with a new door, check out these 2023 Front Door Trends.
Before you begin, be sure to measure the door opening to make sure you buy the right size. Here are the basic steps for installing a new front door:
- Remove the old door and jambs. Use a pry bar, saw, and hammer to carefully remove the old door and jambs.
- Prepare the opening. Use a level and a chisel to make sure the opening is level and the jambs are flush.
- Attach the hinges. The hinges of the door should be attached to the frame. Use screws to secure them in place.
- Install the door. Place the door in the opening and make sure it is level. The hinges should be lined up with the door frame.
- Secure the door. Use screws to secure the door to the frame at the hinges and the top and bottom.
- Add weatherstripping. Use weatherstripping to seal the edges of the door.
- Hang the door hardware. Hang the door handle, locks, and other hardware according to the instructions.
- Test the door. Open and close the door to make sure it works properly.
